SYNOPSIS OF COUNCIL MEETING
6th OCTOBER 2000
This was attended by 4 Officers and 21 members of Council.
- Website:
- Dr Long reported that this needed updating professionally which was agreed by Council. Dr Fraser was thanked for his efforts in setting up original one.
- Interactive Appraisal Skills Package:
- Funded by Pfizer with input from COPMeD, COGPeD and NACT. CD-ROMs will be sent to all PGMCs. Can be found at www.health-media.net.com or www.appraisalskills.com. Chairman urged all CT’s to log on to gain CPD certificate.
- Gazetteer:
- This will be incorporated in the 2000/01 edition of the The Directory of Postgraduate Medical Centres soon to be published.
- Chairman’s Report:
- a)There is a vacancy for a Secretary for NACT office – Diana Blondiau has resigned due to personal reasons. b) Chairman requested emailed regional reports 2 weeks prior to Council Meeting. c) AMEE 2000 was held at Beer-Sheva Israel and NACT workshop was well attended. AMEE 2001 2-5/9/01 in Berlin d) Institute of Learning and Teaching was presented by Prof Sally Brown and can be found at www.ILT.ac.uk. CT’s are urged to become members before September 2001 to avoid having to do the course. f)SHO RITAs have bee piloted in some Deaneries. CTs will become more involved in revalidation of junior staff. g) CT Job Description is now published as part of the Green Book issued by COPMeD – CTs urged to extend their role to become Dir of Med Ed., to look at performance management and to use the CT Job Description as a guide. h) Prof Hill is asking COPMeD to look into the possibility of Deaneries paying this directly. I) Chairman thanked Officers and Jane Litherland for all their support during her tenure as Chairman.
- 2000 AHEC Travelling Fellow & NACT/WYETH Travelling Fellowship 2001:
- Dr Marccus Plescia completed his two week visit and all those involved were thanked. Application forms for 2001 Travelling Fellowship have been circulated. Interviews on 30th November 2000.
- Future Meetings:
- a) Millennium Festival of Medicine 6/11/00 – NACT has a stand. b) Joint Winter Meeting with NAPMECA 1/12/00 numbers limited. c) Spring Meeting 10/11 2001 Swansea. d) RSM/NACT Mtg – 19/01/01 Simulators in Medicine. . Reduction in price for Council members Council Meeting to start at end of this meeting. e) 5th Joint Conference 2002 to be held in Wessex date to be advised.

- Reports from Other Bodies & Regions were tabled and are with Regional Representatives.
- AOB
- a) NACT Official response to NHS plan – easier for untrained staff to become doctors – at what level and where is entry point and where is funding coming from are unanswered. Problem with possible dilution of standards and professions attitude to changes. b) Dr Alistair Thomson (incoming Chair) thanked Dr Kwee Matheson (outgoing Chair) most warmly for her long service and tireless and effective work for the Association.
