Chairman’s Report:
This was tabled-Deanery representatives have a copy.
NACT/Wyeth Travelling Fellowship 2004:
Application forms on website closing date is Friday 31st October. AHEC Fellow Prof Bill Hensel's visit went well - thanks to all those involved.
Meetings:
  1. AMEE 31 Aug - 3 Sept, Bern, Switzerland: NACT ran usual workshop which went well. Very few CTs attended - good meeting for networking. All encouraged to attend in Edinburgh 5-8 September 2004 - book early as places limited.
  2. Winter Meeting 28 Nov 2003 - RCP: Joint with NAMEM: Registration forms out and on website. All encouraged to attend.
  3. Spring Meeting 6/7 May 2004 - Boston, Lincs. Pilgrim Hospital & Woodhall Spa both booked. Golf match on local course am 6 May. Programme ideas welcome - so far MMC & European Working Time Directive.
  4. 6th Joint Conference 2005 - Norwich. University of East Anglia is booked. Eastern Deanery agreed to underwrite but actively looking for big sponsor. Generic website been set up www.pgmde-conf.info. Theme is Learning for, Learning through and Learning in NHS.
  5. Spring Meeting May 2006 - Belfast, Northern Ireland. An exact venue is still to be arranged.
  6. Winter Meeting 26th November 2004 - RSM - hopefully
ECT Courses – going well
NACT Deanery Representative:
Paper has been accepted by COPMeD. Will be circulated and put on website shortly.
SHO Modernisation:
Tensions developing around F1/F2. Debate whether GP should be in F1 or F2. Training gap opening between what can be delivered in MMC and needs for service delivery. Length of GP training 2 or 3 years and needs to include acute medicine.
ABPI:
Meeting held end of July. Minutes will be circulated to Deanery Reps shortly. Next meeting Jun/July 2004. Dr Tiner speaking at NACT Joint Winter Meeting in November. Problems with sponsorship from Pharmaceutical Industry.

Royal Colleges - RCOphth:
Richard Smith (NACT Treasurer) on Training Committee assessing training posts. Dr Hugh Jones Lead Dean. Concerns over national quality of SHO training.ng. (iii) RCPCollege/Deans Liaison Committee: Last meeting not attended. (iv) ASME - Two issues a) Continuing relations with other bodies. b) Defining standards may have conflicts. (v) APMS - no report as no replacement identified for Dr Rake. (vi) UKCEA - no representative. (vii) NAMEM: Annual conference in York well attended where they launched their Fellowship Bursary. Considering offering Royal College's admin staff membership. Mrs Judi Sharpe now Chairman. (vii) Libraries: Report tabled. (viii) JCPTGP: 4 issues a) RCP draft F1 curriculum too secondary care focussed. b) NI Special Agency Board doesn't have GP rep on membership. c) Visit reports on JCPTGP website. d) W Mids PG Dean Steve Fields now chair of delivery board for MMC (xi) BAMM - No representative.

  2. Kent, Surrey, Sussex: Dr Dewhurst's reported that Foundation project MMC how will it work as pilots all in super numery specification.absence
  3. Anglia: Report tabled.
  4. Oxford: Report tabled.
  5. Wessex: Report tabled.
  6. South West: Dr Spencer reported that there is a huge mess in their deanery. As no dean has been appointed there is little/no deanery support for CTs.
  7. Yorkshire: Report tabled in Dr Nagi's absence.
  8. Northern: Dr Verber apologized for not sending in a written report. Funding discussion by NTNs. MMC a big issue. Their "Road Show" was very well attended.
  9. North West (West): Report tabled in Dr Serlin's absence.
  10. North West (East): Dr Brett's replacement is Dr Mike Cheshire who was unable to attend.
  11. Sth Yorks & Humber: Report tabled.
  12. Trent: Report tabled.
  13. LNR: Report tabled.
  14. West Midlands: Report tabled.
  15. Wales: No report in Dr Morris' absence.
  16. Scottish Tutors: Report tabled.
  17. Northern Ireland: Dr Burnside in Dr Varghese's absence reported that GPTs to VTS central appointments for all.
  18. Defence Services: No report in Lt Col King's absence.

AOB:
As it was his last meeting, Chairman, Dr Alistair Thomson thanked everyone for their support over the last three years. Dr Long thanked Chairman for his chairmanship.
