SYNOPSIS OF COUNCIL MEETING
19th JANUARY 2001
This was attended by 5 Officers and 14 members of Council.

Chairman’s Report:
Dr Alistair Thomson informed Council that Dr Kwee Matheson and Dr Ashley Fraser stood down as Chairman and Hon Ass. Secretary and welcomed Mrs Celia Ingham Clark as new Hon Treasurer and Mr Richard Smith as new Hon Ass. Secretary. Ms Deborah Pattinson has been appointed as Diana Blondiau’s replacement as Secretary in NACT Office and started on 2nd January.

Officers roles and responsibilities were looked at and agreed as follows:

Dr A Blair – Vice Chairman. To maintain an overview of NACT strategy.
Dr A Long – Hon Sec. Computing (Office, website, liaison with Drs.net.uk) and WTF
Mrs C Ingham Clark – Hon Treasurer. Budget and business plan
Mr R Smith – Hon Ass Sec. Generating minutes with Mrs Litherland
Dr A Thomson as Chairman responsible for NACT Strategy, liaison with COPMeD and other NACT activities.

MEETINGS:

  1. Millennium Festival of Medicine – content of meeting good organisation not good but well attended.
  2. Joint NACT/NAPMECA – Feedback good Meeting spoilt by annual clash with ENT meeting as venue very noisy. Council agreed to move date back to last Friday in November to avoid repeat of problem.
  3. RSM/NACT: Simulators in Medicine – Excellent meeting – thanks to Dr Kwee Matheson & Dr Andrew Long for their work on Steering Committee.
  4. Spring -10/11 May, Swansea – registration forms now out.
  5. AMEE – 2-5 September 2001 – Berlin NACT running workshops for Directors of PGME Group – info now out. All CTs encouraged to attend.
  6. Winter – 30th November, 2001 RSM. Title “New World of Education and Training – Opportunity or Threat”.
  7. 5th Joint Conference 2002 – First meeting ironed out problems from 4th Joint Conference. Money still owing to NACT.
  8. Spring 8/9 May 2003 – Inverness. Dr Ieuan Davies will host this and Jane Litherland will visit the centre and look for suitable acommodation in May/June this year.
Courses:
All courses running well and fully booked. Look into running extra ones to accommodate demand.
Training & Resource Pack:
Now on the web with Prof Hayes module still to be updated. Once impact of federations has been assessed a further revision may be necessary.
COPMeD:
Confederation boundaries out. Indication paper soon on restructuring SHO grade. SHO RITA pilot progressing steadily. Huge difficulties for Dean’s & Trusts with reduction of trainees hours. Pay issues on flexible training are great concern to Trusts and flexible time will go down not up – first 40 hours paid at standard rate rest at on call rate. If trainees fail to complete diary cards it is a disciplinary offence. From April 2002, Deans will hold 100% of SpR’s basic salary.

  1. Refugee Doctors – funds are available. NACT asked for views. 6-mth trial to fund on an ad hoc basis SHO’s. Wide spectrum of needs:- from language difficulties to those who already have GMC registration. It was agreed NACT members should offer help at a practical level where approached.
  2. Action for Victims of Medical Accidents – letter written, awaiting reply.
  3. PRHO Clearing – This stopped 2 years ago. Doctors.net.uk advertise posts.
  4. Trust Doctors appointments – Any written proposals as basis of a policy welcome.
